As Police continue to investigate the alleged inciteful comments made in a Pacific Dialogue discussion last week, the Delegation of the European Union for the Pacific has today released a statement saying that it is concerned about a series of recent arrests and detentions of political, trade union and civil society leaders who attended the meeting in Suva.
The Delegation of the European Union for the Pacific urges full respect for freedom of speech and freedom of assembly in Fiji.
Meanwhile NZ Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully has told TVNZ that his office is seeking information on the circumstances of the reported arrests and clarification on the status of those reportedly arrested.
McCully says they would obviously be concerned about any action that undermined democratic principles and human rights in Fiji.
