Yacata Co-operative Store is expected to bring joy to the villagers of Yacata Island as they need not to travel far anymore to access basic daily needs.
Co‑operative Chairman Etuate Vulakoro says the people of Yacata are grateful for the helping hand of the Kaibu and Vatuvara Group of Islands and the New Zealand High Commission.
Vulakoro says the New Zealand government gave $33,OOO for the construction while the her sister Laisa Vulakoro who is also known as the Vude Queen fundraised $17,000.
He says Yacata Island Co‑operative shop has been completed as they await the next trip of The Kaibu barge to transport all the goods to fill up the shop.
Vulakoro says the villagers had given in their 100 percent in feeding the RFMF engineers as they built their store.
He adds that this new store will keep the villages sustained and not travel far for their goods.
Vulakoro says this store was relocated because their old store was destroyed during TC Winston.
