Vodafone Fiji has launched the Pre5G trials today which will be the evolution of new generation wireless connectivity that will extend to another level from the existing 4G network.

Vodafone Fiji Deputy Chairperson, Russell Hewitt says that the 5G trial has already started in the developed nations, thus Vodafone Fiji is working hard to keep local customers on par with the latest technology developments.

In partnership with ZTE the 5G Technology looks to bring it’s users a network rate up to 1Gigabyte per second as well as setting the baseline platform and technologies such as 4K high dimension video, augmented reality and enhance broadband experience.

Hewitt says data demand has increased over the years and it is expected to go four times greater in 2020.

Vodafone Fiji Chief Technology Officer, Andrew Kumar says that once the lab trial is successful and technology is ready then the 5G network will be available to customers.

Kumar has also told Fijivillage that the network is expected to be available by mid 2018.
