Seven officers at Ba Fire Station given certificates of bravery

Seven officers at the Ba Fire Station have been given certificates of bravery for rescuing two pregnant women during Cyclone Josie.

The certificates of bravery were awarded to Simione Qiolevu, Kinijoji Cakobau, Rashid Ali, Inoke Raleba, Kalaveti Vatuinaruku, Josaia Vakalala and Josefa Waqabaca.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Minister for Local Government Parveen Bala said they salute the heroes of the Ba National Fire Authority for their bravery and their resourcefulness and ability to execute fully their rescue plan.

Twenty‑seven year old Swastika Archana Raju thanked fire fighters for rescuing her when she was in labour during the height of tropical cyclone Josie.

The mother of three who was in labour during TC Josie said the professionalism and care taken by the firefighters during rescue efforts was commendable.
