The Suva City Council will continue to charge people a spot fine of $40 if they are found littering anywhere within the municipal boundary.
The concern arose after a discovery was made that people have continuously left their rubbish along the Nasese foreshore.
SCC says they cannot be everywhere all the time, however it is the peoples responsibility to put their rubbish in the proper disposal that are provided.
They say with lights and proper facilities now along the Nasese forefront, people must learn to care for them as everything is provided for the public’s benefit.
Even though many of the pollution is resulted from being washed ashore from other areas, SCC is urging the public to think of the safety of people that are resorting to the sea as a source of food as some of these rubbish can pose threats to people.
SCC continues to clean up the area at least once a week.
