Rotuma is ready to welcome home stay tourists to their island.

Those were the words of the Chief of Wainafa District in Rotuma Vesanti Susau following the opening of the $12.8 million Rotuma Chip Seal Runway.

The new development will now allow ATR-72 to land in Rotuma and Susau says that this has kept their hopes alive for locals and tourists to visit the island.

Susau adds that the people in the Island of Rotuma are thankful to the current government for major developments.

This includes the upgrading of their Jetty, construction of a new hospital, work on new farm roads and the latest $12.8 million Chip Seal Runway by Fiji Airports Limited.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has promised the people of Rotuma that his government will look into the issue of having bigger boats to serve Rotuma from Suva.

This confirmation was given after a concern was raised by the people during the talanoa session with Bainimarama.
