Senior citizens around the country are going to welcome 2016 with a smile as their homes will undergo major upgrade.
Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Rosy Akbar says the Samabula Senior Citizens Home in Suva, Golden Age Home in Lautoka and Babasiga Ashram in Labasa are expected to undergo major service upgrade next year.
Akbar says work is in progress to refurbish the age care homes and provide the much needed equipment and recreational facilities.
She says come next year they will have a full time social welfare officer based in each of these homes so that they can be continuously informed of the issues faced.
Akbar adds they also plan to increase the level of comfort in these homes particularly through trained care giving.
A budget of $901,500 has been allocated in the Social Welfare Ministry’s 2016 budget for operations of these three age care homes.
There are 44 residents at the Golden Age Home and Babasiga Ashram while Samabula Senior Citizens Home has 52 residents.
