The newly upgraded and extended Lautoka Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department is expected to open at the end of next month.

The extended department includes two operation theatres, recovery units and new emergency equipment.

The Ministry of Health says the upgraded department and theatre will cater for surrounding towns as it will be fully equipped and will be able to handle critical patients.

The cost of this upgrade and extension project is $12.4 million.

Meanwhile construction of the new Naulu Health Centre is expected to start soon.

Health Minister, Jone Usamate says civil works for the new Naulu Health Centre has been completed.

Usamate says the new health centre will relieve pressure on the Nausori, Valelevu and Suva Health Centre.

$4.1 million has been allocated in the 2016/2017 National budget for this initiative.
