Fiji Bus Operators Association stresses that buses must have Disposable E‑transport Cards with them

The Fiji Bus Operators Association has again stressed that all buses must have Disposable E‑transport Cards with them.

This was highlighted by Fiji Bus Operators Association General Secretary Rohit Latchan following concerns from members of the public on the unavailability of disposable cards in some buses.

Latchan says that if drivers do not have disposable cards passengers can report them to the respective bus companies or LTA.

The e‑ticketing law clearly states that a bus operator must ensure that disposable bus cards are available for sale at all times on any bus owned by the bus operator.

A penalty of $1000 applies if this is not adhered to by the bus operators.

A failure to pay the fine on their part will be liable upon conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000.

According to the Attorney General and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum if the disposable cards are not available, then the passenger can also travel for free.

We have received several complaints by people that bus drivers are just saying that they do not have disposable cards available and are telling people to get off the bus.

People have informed Fijivillage that they only prefer to use disposable cards if they are in a rush and are unable to recharge their E‑transport cards or they are starting work early in the morning or finish off late at night, and it is difficult to recharge their cards at that time of the day or night.
