A 29-year-old bus driver who foiled the getaway of a 25-year-old man after he allegedly sexually assaulted a primary school student in his bus has been awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Fiji Police Force.
Avorosa Rokotuiveikau was presented the Certificate in Recognition of Civic Pride and Commitment by the Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald.
Rokotuiveikau says he is proud of what he has done, which will also set an example for others to follow.
Commissioner Groenewald says they appreciate what Rokotuiveikau has done and it sets an example for members of the public to also assist police in apprehending people who have done something wrong.
On the 11th of last month at about 4pm in the afternoon, a 13-year-old student who was a passenger in Rokotuiveikau’s bus was allegedly indecently assaulted by a 28-year-old security officer.
The man got off the bus in Samabula and ran away.
Rokotuiveikau was alerted about the incident and he instantly without a second thought diverted from his normal route through Ono Street in pursuit of the accused and managed to cut off the accused along Princes Road where he was eventually caught and taken to the Samabula Police Station.
He has since been charged for indecent assault and produced in court.
