World Bank Group selects Imrana Jalal as its new Inspection Panel member

The World Bank Group which is based in Washington DC has selected a Fijian as its new Inspection Panel member.

Imrana Jalal who is a Principal Social Development Specialist for the Asian Development Bank, is the first Fijian to be appointed as a panel member after it was approved by the Bank’s Board of Executive Directors yesterday.

World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim says Jalal will bring to the Panel more than 30 years of experience across diverse geopolitical and multi cultural environment in the private and public sectors.

He says Jalal was selected through an international, competitive recruitment process and her appointment is effective from the 1st of January next year.

Jalal has served as a Commissioner in the Geneva based International Commission of Jurists, as Chief Technical Adviser at the Pacific Regional Rights Resource Team, and as Fiji Human Rights Commissioner.

The role of the Panel is to carry out independent investigations into whether the Bank has complied with its policies and procedures.

The Panel reports to the Board of Executive Directors.

Inspection panel members serve one 5 year term.
