The National Disaster Management Office in collaboration with nine agencies in the vicinity of Suva will be having a tsunami drill tomorrow.
In a statement, the NDMO has confirmed this will be the third tsunami drill exercise conducted this year as they continue to create awareness on tsunami response plans by the agencies in Suva.
The agencies that will be participating in the tsunami drill exercise tomorrow include, the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, Itaukei Lands Trust Board, Ministry of Economy, Fiji Development Bank, Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, the Ministry of Employment and Productivity, the Reserve Bank of Fiji and United National Department of Safety and Security.
NDMO says that the tsunami evacuation will see all the early warning sirens from Kinoya to Lami Town activated adding that this will only involve the organisations mentioned.
The National Disaster Management Office advises members of the Public living along the vicinity not to be alarmed and that these agencies will be temporarily closed from 11am-2pm tomorrow.
It adds that the roads that will also be temporarily closed during this time include, Victoria parade and the junction to Gordon Street, the junction of Pratt Street and Renwick Road, Loftus and Victoria Parade junction, Gladstone and Victoria Parade junction, Victoria parade and junction to Constitution Avenue, Gladstone Road and junction to Constitution Avenue, Gladstone Road to Government Buildings New Wing, Thurston, McGregor and Gordon Street intersection, Holland Street Roundabout on the junction of Knolly Street, Knolly Street and the junction to Pender Street and Disraeli Road and junction to Pender Street.
