All Blacks lock Sam Whitelock is expecting the unexpected in Sunday's first Bledisloe Cup Test against the Wallabies in Wellington.

Whitelock says with Dave Rennie leading the Wallabies, he might bring some northern traits to their game pattern but this will be revealed on Sunday and it would be up to them to cope with that. Rennie was Whitelock's coach with the New Zealand Under-20s side when they won the world tournament, and he had been a coach who had brought his side together well.

The 31-year-old says they have to prepare for everything but it is going to be an enjoyable challenge when they get out there and see how it goes.

He says the All Blacks have been using footages associated with Australian games and player so that they are aware of player capabilities.

The All Blacks will meet the Wallabies at 3pm Sunday in the first Bledisloe Cup match.
