The Fiji Sports Council and the Fiji Rugby Union have announced their partnership for the upcoming FSC U20 7s Rugby Tournament.

Fiji Sports Council Executive Chairman, Gilbert Vakalalabure says this partnership is a vital step in achieving their vision of building a sustainable development pathway for young athletes in Fiji.

Vakalalabure says by collaborating with the FRU, they are ensuring that they provide the right platform for our U20 athletes to showcase their talent, refine their skills, and prepare for future international competitions, including the next Olympic Games.

He says this partnership marks a significant step in advancing grassroots rugby development in Fiji.

The Executive Chairman says the tournament aims to not only showcase young talent but also foster community engagement and national pride by bringing high-calibre rugby to different regions of the country.

He says the U20 7s Rugby Tournament is set to be a groundbreaking event, designed to nurture and develop Fiji’s next generation of rugby stars.

Vakalalabure say this initiative will feature male and female divisions for U20 athletes, with competitions to be held across five key venues throughout Fiji.

The first tournament will be held from 1st to 2nd November at Thompson Park, Navua.

Through this partnership, the Sports Council and FRU will work together to ensure the success of the tournament by providing the necessary infrastructure, expertise, and community support to young athletes.

The Sports Council will manage the venues and strategic planning, while FRU will bring its rugby expertise and technical guidance to create a high-quality competition experience for both male and female U20 players.

The Fiji Sports Council U20 7s Rugby Tournament also seeks to highlight gender equality in sports, with dedicated male and female divisions aimed at providing equal opportunities for both genders to excel.
