21-year-old Aisake Peni is expected to make his debut for the Fiji Airways National 7s as they attempt to win the World Championship during Los Angeles 7s next month.
Peni, who is from Navala Village in Ba currently plays for the Devo Babas.
Peni says he was surprised when he received a call informing him that he had been selected to be part of the extended squad.
He says he feels lucky to have been chosen among so many young and talented rugby players in the country, and considers this opportunity a true blessing.
The 21-year-old says he was thrilled and immediately seized the chance to come down to Suva and join the squad.
Peni also shared that before he left home, his parents reminded him to keep working hard and not to give up easily.
He says he started playing rugby while attending St. John’s College in Cawaci in Levuka.
He adds after completing Year 13 at DAV College in Ba, he told his parents he would not pursue further studies at any university and would instead focus solely on rugby.
Peni says he often faces financial challenges, but that does not deter him from staying focused on achieving his dream.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles 7s will be held from the 3rd and 4th of next month.
