Fiji Water Flying Fijians Captain Waisea Nayacalevu has been told by his Sales Sharks club that he is free to leave if he can find another club after struggling to find his form following his move from Toulon last year.
The 34-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Sharks, who are sixth in the Premiership table, four points outside the top four places, with the option of a second year depending on form and fitness.
The club says they had earmarked him as the short-term replacement for England star Manu Tuilagi when he signed a two-year deal with Top 14 outfit Bayonne, but Nayacalevu has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place.
Nayacalevu has only made six appearances for the Sharks this season, but he hasn’t started a game for the side since the 47-17 defeat to Premiership champions Northampton Saints in October last year.
He has played just 21 minutes in two games since his last appearance for the Flying Fijians against Ireland in their final Autumn international.
With Nayacalevu now freed to look for another club, the Sharks are believed to be searching in South Africa for his replacement.
