After returning from a three-week suspension, Swire Shipping Fijian Drua flanker Motikiai Murray put on an electric performance over the weekend against the Waratahs to earn himself the fijivillage Fan Player of the Match.
The young mobile flanker was named to start at number 7 after his return, and he did not fail to impress as he lived up to the expectations of the home crowd and also the coaching panel.
Murray ran a total of 61 metres in 13 carries with 2 linebreaks and beating 6 defenders.
He scored a converted try in the 22nd minute of the match which extended the Drua’s lead to 13-0 after picking up a loose ball from the ruck inside the Waratahs’ 22-metre line, bursting through the defence and beating three defenders on his way to the try line.
Murray’s current form could see him getting a call-up for the Fiji Water Flying Fijians’ June test series squad if he keeps the consistency.
Meanwhile, despite the win against the Waratahs, the Drua remain at the bottom of the table with 11 points and their hopes of making it into the top 6 are still well alive. The Drua will take on Moana Pasifika at 4.35pm on Saturday at North Harbour Stadium in round 11 of the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific.
