Mahonri Schwalger has resigned as coach of the Samoa men's rugby team while facing serious criminal charges.
Chairman Tuilaepa Dr Sailele Malielegaoi confirmed on Tuesday that Schwalger's resignation was accepted by the full board of the Samoa Rugby Union.
Schwalger was suspended in September after he was officially charged with unlawful sexual connection, attempted sexual violation, sexual conduct with a person under 16, indecent assault and common assault.
He has been bailed to appear in court on April 28.
Schwalger was appointed coach in April following the resignation of Seilala Mapusua, who led Samoa to the 2023 World Cup in France.
The 46-year-old is a former Samoa captain who played 40 tests at hooker. He played for Sale and Scarlets in Britain and for the Hurricanes, Highlanders and Chiefs in Super Rugby.
