Natabua High School’s Mesake Turuva has today redeemed himself by winning the senior boys’ 200 metres title in the Coca Cola Lautoka Zone currently underway at Churchill Park.
After a disappointing result in the 400 metres final yesterday, the 17-year-old came back stronger today and took home the gold.
Originally from Narewa, Waicoba Village in Nadroga, Turuva says coming into today’s final, he wanted to prove his worth and he knew the competition would not be easy.
He says the biggest challenge he faced in his preparation was trying to endure the hectic training sessions but it has paid off.
While speaking to fijivillage Sports, Turuva says he is confident of bagging gold in the upcoming Coca Cola Games and is looking forward to it.
Turuva claimed gold in the 400 metres intermediate boys’ division during the Coca Cola Games last year for Natabua and later went on to represent Fiji in the Oceania Athletics Competition where he was part of the 4x400 metres silver medal winning team.
Meanwhile, Natabua and Jasper Williams High School are leading the fijivillage medal tally in the boys’ and girls’ divisions respectively.
In the boys’ division, Natabua so far has 14 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze, followed by Central College Lautoka with 4 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze, while Saint Thomas High School is in 3rd place with 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
In the girls’ division, Jasper leads with 10 gold, 9 silver and 8 bronze, Natabua is second with 9 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze while Yasawa High School is third with 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
