After finishing the Coca-Cola Macuata Zone 2 boys’ division in second spot, Labasa College athletes are getting ready to take part in the Coca-Cola Games next week despite the pressure and challenges.

Labasa College Sports Manager Roneel Ram says their ground is currently being used for athletics, rugby, boy’s and girl’s soccer training and they have to share the ground.

He says they only have time from 3.30pm to 4.15pm to train as the school was closed due to flooding and the extra period is now being used to catch up on missed classes.

Ram says the athletes have to leave at 4.15pm so that they do not miss the last bus home.

He says the rubber tracks at the HFC Bank Stadium will be new for the students and it will be difficult to adjust but their sprinters are using starting blocks so they can get accustomed to it.

Ram says they hope they get time to prepare on the rubber tracks but if not, Ram says the students have to be mentally prepared and overcome it themselves on the day of the event.

He is urging the athletes to stay calm on the event day and not think about the crowd, the music or the noise on the day.

They will reach Suva on Tuesday afternoon. The Coca-Cola Games is from next Thursday to Saturday.
