Fiji Water Flying Fijians flanker Levani Botia could not help his La Rochelle side as they went down 16-14 to Leinster who secured a hard-fought victory in the Investec Champions Cup.
Leinster had the services of All Blacks centre Jordie Barrett following an 11th-hour injury to Tommy O’Brien.
Sam Prendergast contributed three penalties and converted Joe McCarthy’s first-half try at Stade Marcel-Deflandre.
Leinster led 10-6 at half time.
The match ended in dramatic fashion as La Rochelle’s Antoine Hastoy struck the post with a penalty that could have clinched the game.
He later saw a drop-goal attempt blocked.
Despite relentless pressure in the dying moments, Leinster held firm, earning their third pool win in as many games.
