Hard work and sacrifice has paid off for 18-year-old Elina Drikibau after she was named in the 12-member Fiji Pearls squad to the Netball World Cup in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Suva Grammar School student says she is honored to be part of the Fiji Pearls team to South Africa and she is a bit nervous as this is her first time participating in the World Cup.

Drikibau says she will not only represent her country but also her family, school, friends, and her Lomaiviti Netball Club.

She also believes her selection will encourage her friends, teammates and other youngsters in Fiji that hard work and dedication will drive them to achieve what they want.

The 18-year-old also expressed her gratitude for the guidance and support from her parents, family and from experienced players along the way and is looking forward to continue learning during this journey and making the most of this invaluable experience at the World Cup.

Drikibau hails from Toki Village in Ovalau and shares maternal links to Vanuabalavu.

She was selected into the Pearls Squad following exceptional performances in the post-COVID Punjas Digicel Reset Championship.

The Netball World Cup will be held from the 28th of July to the 6th of August in Cape Town, South Africa.
