As the 2024/2025 HSBC SVNS World Series approaches its climax the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side’s performance in the HSBC Singapore 7s which kicks off today will be crucial and will play a huge role in their position on the series table.
Fiji currently sits in 2nd place with 76 points, 12 points behind current series leaders Argentina who has 88 points.
Fiji has experienced a season of fluctuating fortunes in the series with their campaign starting off well following their triumph at the Dubai Sevens in December last year.
However, subsequent tournaments presented challenges and they have failed to find their feet again in the last few tournaments, suffering close defeats in the knockout stages.
Following this tournament, the top eight teams will qualify for the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles which will be held on the 3rd and 4th of next month and will determine the overall Championship winner.
Fiji now has an uphill battle this weekend as they will need to win both their pool matches to qualify for the semi finals since the tournament will not have any quarter finals since there are 4 pools and three teams in each pool.
The team that tops their respective pools will qualify for the semi finals.
Fiji will face the USA at 9.06 tonight in their first pool match and then play New Zealand at 12.22 midnight tonight in their second match.
The Men’s cup semi finals will begin at 6.56pm tomorrow, and the cup final will kick off at 11.41pm tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s first match is against Ireland at 2pm today before playing France at 9.16 tonight.
The Women’s cup semi finals will begin at 5.45pm tomorrow, and the cup final will start at 11.05pm tomorrow.
