Following the Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s triumph in the HSBC Dubai 7s over the weekend, rugby pundits have all agreed that Fiji is back to its best after dismal performances in the last 22 tournaments until last week.
Being labelled as one of the giants of the game with 2 gold and 1 silver Olympic medal, Fiji were disappointing last two seasons as they did not manage to get a hand on any of the trophies in the series.
The disappointing run also included a silver medal finish in the Paris Olympics last year.
But all doubts that Fiji will be back up there with the best in men’s 7s were quickly put to rest over the weekend with that win over Spain in the Cup Final.
Now as all the focus turns to the Cape Town 7s this weekend, even if another side takes out the title, the point still stands that Fiji are well and truly back.
With a long season ahead, it would not be a surprise to see Fiji at least win one more Cup Final from the next six events without jinxing anything.
Fiji is in Pool A alongside Great Britain and Uruguay.
The Cape Town 7s will kick off this Saturday.
