Aussie rugby sevens star and Olympic gold medallist Ellia Green has announced in a video that he has transitioned to male, something he called 'the best decision of his life'.

The 29-year-old realised as a young child that the gender he was assigned at birth was not the identity he felt deep down.

In the video, Green who was born in Suva noted the transition was motivated by a desire to be true to himself after his career in sports.

Realising that sharing his experience could be lifesaving for others is what compelled Green to go public in a video to be shown to participants at an international summit on ending transphobia and homophobia in sports.

One of Australia's greatest sevens players, Green won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics and also played NRLW footy for the New Zealand Warriors.
