Swire Shipping Fijian Drua outside backs Ilaisa Droasese and Taniela Rakuro are set to miss the opening round of the 2024 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season due to injury.

This is according to coach Mick Byrne who says both players injured their knees.

Byrne says Droasese will be ruled out for two weeks while Rakuro will be out for four weeks.

When asked by fijivillage News if the two injuries will affect the team in the opening few rounds, Byrne says, before, losing a player who has represented the Flying Fijians, especially at the Rugby World Cup would have been a downer but now, there is enough depth in the squad.

He says they have players who are capable of replacing the two injured players and it is a disappointment for them to miss the opening few rounds of the tournament.

The Fijian Drua will kick off their 2024 Super Rugby Pacific campaign against the Blues this weekend and Byrne has called on fans in Auckland to come out in numbers to support the team.

The Drua will take on the Blues at 3.35pm this Saturday in Auckland.

In other round 1 matches this week, the Crusaders will play the Chiefs at 6.05pm this Friday, the Rebels will play the Brumbies at 8.35pm Friday, the Force will take on the Hurricanes at 11pm Friday, the Highlanders will host the Moana Pasifika at 6.05pm Saturday, and the Reds will take on the Waratahs at 9.05pm Saturday.
