Digicel Fiji has renewed their sponsorship towards the Suva Rugby Union club competition for the next two years
Last year, Digicel gave $10,000 sponsorship for the Koroturaga and Escott Shield competition and this year they have raised it to $12,000.
Digicel Fiji CEO Farid Mohammed says last year they partnered with Suva Rugby for their club competition to bring grassroots rugby to a higher level and Suva Rugby delivered on that.
Mohammed says the Union have told him that more clubs have registered for their club competition this year and this is a delight as more youths will now be occupied with rugby rather than engage in criminal activities.
Suva Rugby President Commander Humphrey Tawake says with the sponsorship last year, they have seen an increase in the hype for the game and also an increase in the teams participating.
Tawake says the level of competition in the club games have been the strength of Suva Rugby and without Digicel's support they could not have won the Skipper Cup last year.
He says the signing today is a new beginning of a good partnership for the company and the club.
The Digicel Koroturaga Championship and the Digicel Escott Shield will kick-off this Saturday at Buckhurst and Bidesi Park in Suva.
