Crusaders’ vice-captain David Havili has been ruled out of the remainder of Super Rugby Aotearoa with a fractured thumb.
Havili joins skipper Scott Barrett on the sideline now as the competition leaders’ depth will be tested down the stretch, starting with the Hurricanes in Christchurch on Saturday night.
The loss of Crusaders utility David Havili has been described as 'huge' by midfielder Jack Goodhue.
Goodhue says it's a shame for them as they have lost a quality player.
The loss of Havili can’t be understated, given he has been playing fullback, and also covering the midfield and first five-eighth.
Having not carried a specialist to cover Richie Mo’unga in their first four games, Brett Cameron and Fergus Burke will come into the selection equation.
The Crusaders are five points clear of the Blues at the top of the ladder with a game in hand.
They will face the Hurricanes at 7.05pm this Saturday.
