It was love at first try for 17-year-old Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women forward Carletta Yee when she went for her first rugby training back in high school as she never looked back after trying out the sport.
The former Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School student told fijivillage Sports that she was invited by one of her senior schoolmates to a rugby training session one afternoon, and she just fell in love with the sport from there.
Fast forward to more than a year later, the Levuka, Lakeba, Lau youngster has forced her way into the Fijian Drua Women’s final 30-member squad that was named yesterday for the 2025 Super Rugby W competition.
Yee says her journey to rugby stardom was also filled with challenges and one of those challenges was being looked down upon because of her age.
Yee says one thing that she likes about the sport is the bond that is created off the field with other players from within the team and also from other teams.
She says she has set her goal for this year and one of them is to make the matchday 23 squad every week, and she hopes to be playing in front of her family on home soil this season.
The Drua Women will kick start their 2025 Super Rugby W campaign against the Waratahs on Friday 28th February 2025 in Sydney.
