The Suva Zone 2 kicks off at 9 this morning where 13 schools will be battling for supremacy at the HFC Bank Stadium Suva.

The 1,500 metres finals, sub-junior javelin, sub-junior boys long jump, junior boys shot put, intermediate boys high jump, and the intermediate girls long jump all start at 9am as well.

The 100 metres sub-junior and junior heats are at 9.45am, the 100 metres intermediate and senior heats are at 10.35am, with the 100 metres finals at 3.15pm.

The 400 metres heats are at 11.15am with the sub-junior and junior finals at 2.30pm, followed by the intermediate and senior finals at 2.50pm.

The 4x100 metres heats are at 1pm today with the finals at 2pm tomorrow.

During an interview with fijivillage Sports, General Secretary of Suva Zone Two, Donald Reece says top guns like Marist Brothers High School and Suva Grammar School will be competing against other schools in the zones who are looking to provide the challenge in the next two days.

Reece says the defending boys’ champion Marist will look to retain their title this year, while Suva Grammar School will want to defend the girls’ title and hopefully inspire their boys' team to create an upset this year.

He says the two-day athletics meet will give more time for athletes to rest and those taking part are encouraged to be the best version of themselves compete well in the true spirits of the games and display good sportsmanship.

Reece says security will be tight and students, parents, and guardians can expect heavy Police presence.

He says tickets will be available at the venue, with grandstand tickets selling at $10 per day and embankment tickets costing $7 per day.

The Suva Zone 2 will be held today and tomorrow.
