The Fiji Under 20 side made a clean sweep at the Oceania Rugby Under 20 Challenge after beating neighbours Samoa 31-17 last night.

Fiji scored two tries in the first half through fullback Isikeli Basiyalo and number 8 Rupeni Nakiyoyo before Samoa through wing Panaua Niu.

Niu scored his second try for Samoa after a well-read intercept.

Fiji showed their class in the second half and stayed composed under pressure which made the difference in the end.

Fiji also combined finesse and firepower to lead them to a dominant performance against Samoa.

The win has seen Fiji qualify for the World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa later this year.

Fiji made a clean sweep in this tournament after beating Tonga 39-25 in the first round and Moana Pasifika 48-19 in the second round.

While Fiji can look forward to mixing it with the best in age-grade international rugby in just under four months, Samoa’s victory over Tonga in round two confirmed their place in the second-tier World Rugby U20 Trophy 2024, which will be played at the Hive Stadium in Edinburgh, on 2-17 July.

The World Rugby U20 Championship will be held in South Africa from 29th June to 19th July, 2024.
