“No uniforms, no problem.”
That is the sentiment of Yasawa North Secondary School athletes who are aiming to do their best in tomorrow’s Coca-Cola Games despite the hardship they faced with lack of resources.
Unlike other schools, the Yasawa North athletes will be wearing the uniforms of Ratu Meli Memorial School as they do not have enough to cater for their uniforms.
Speaking to Legend FM News, Assistant Athletics coach Viliame Seru says a huge part of their preparations was to raise funds for their accommodation, food and transportation around Suva.
Seru adds that they also had to make sure their athletes make the qualifying times and were able to send in ten students who will represent the school for the first time in the Coke Games this year.
Yasawa North Secondary is the new participating school and two of their athletes include Junior Boys 800 metres runner Penaia Bogileka and Intermediate Boys 3,000 metres runner Varinava Bari are aiming to win a medal each this weekend.
Seru says winning a medal for the school would be a bonus for them.
Meanwhile, the defending boys' division champion Natabua High School are expected to arrive in Suva later today.
The defending girls champion is Adi Cakobau School.
The 100 metres heats will start at 12.15pm tomorrow while the 400 metres heats will start at 2.55pm. The 1,500 metres finals will be held from 5.25pm tomorrow.
