Former British and Irish Lions coach Sir Clive Woodward believes All Blacks coach Steve Hansen is "edgy" and has struggled with some key decisions in this big series.
Writing in his latest column in the Daily Mail, Woodward ‑ who coached England between 1997‑2004 and took charge of the Lions' last tour to New Zealand in 2005 ‑ has been highly critical of Hansen's ways, particularly during and after the 24‑21 defeat in Wellington.
Woodward starts his piece with the line "I'm a fan of Steve Hansen", going on to say he's a fan of anyone who coaches at this level, but notes that Hansen is "really under pressure this week" and labels this series‑decider at Eden Park on Saturday as the biggest test of Hansen's career.
Woodward says this was the week everyone will find out a great deal about Hansen.
Woodward is asking if Hansen can call on his experience to see him through this week.
He says a few cracks started to appear in the heat of battle in Wellington last week when Hansen made two calls which he would not have made and which may have cost New Zealand the game.
Woodward says he cannot understand why, when Sonny Bill Williams was sent off, Hansen decided to take off powerhouse flanker Jerome Kaino and replace him with rookie centre Ngani Laumape.
Then there was the substitution of Aaron Smith, which Woodward couldn't fathom.
He says Smith is world class and was running the show in Wellington.
Woodward adds New Zealand badly needed 80 minutes out of Smith and he didn't detect any fatigue in his play.
The All Blacks will face the Lions at 7.35pm this Saturday.
