The village of Lutu in Wainibuka, Naitasiri had a grand celebration when they heard that Josaia Wini had been selected to be part of the Vodafone Fiji Sevens team travelling to the Hong Kong and Japan 7s.
Josaia’s father Tevita Wesivalua told Fijivillage the village had been celebrating even before his son was selected to be part of the final team.
He said Josaia is the first rugby player from Lutu to join the Fiji Sevens team.
Wesivalu said they were confident that his son was going to be picked to represent Fiji.
Josaia Wini is the nephew of former Flying Fijian, Rusiate Namoro.
The former Lelean Memorial School student is confident that he will do Fiji proud at Soh Kon Po stadium next week Friday.
Wini said he is looking forward to playing alongside his idol Pio Tuwai.
This will be redemption for the 20-year-old after he failed to secure a rugby league scholarship to play for the Cowboys 2 years ago.
Fiji is pooled with Samoa, Belgium and Canada in the Hong Kong 7s which kicks off next Friday.
They will face Samoa in their first game at 12.44am Saturday.
