The Wellington Phoenix's unbeaten run in the A‑League came to an abrupt halt last night after being beaten 1‑0 by Sydney FC in Wellington, New Zealand.

The A‑League's joint Fijian top scorer Roy Krishna was denied from the penalty spot as Sydney FC continued their dominance in Wellington to hand the Phoenix their first defeat in 60 days.

The Phoenix had a chance to salvage a point when Steven Taylor collided with Michael Zullo and won a soft penalty for his team in the 85th minute. But Sydney goalkeeper Redmayne guessed the right way to deny Krishna his 12th goal of the season and secure a determined win in blustery conditions last night.

The Phoenix last beat Sydney at home in 2013.
