Weightlifters aiming for more gold medals at Pacific Games

The Fiji Weightlifting team will be aiming to win more gold medals during next month’s Pacific Games in PNG.

The Weightlifting team won 6 gold medals during the 2011 Pacific Games.

Manueli Tulo and Maria Liku who won three gold medals each in the 2011 Pacific Games will spearhead Fiji’s campaign with 24‑year‑old Apolonia Vaivai who settled for bronze in the women’s 75kg category at last year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Peni Taqua who won a silver medal in the 77kg category during the 2011 Pacific Games will also be targeting to win a gold medal.

Other weightlifters include Seruwaia Malani, Ulina Sagone, Julia Timi, Eileen Cikamatana, Poama Qaqa and Tevita Tawai.

15 gold medals will be up for grabs with 8 in the mens and 7 in the womens category.

The Pacific Games will be held from the 4th to the 18th of July.
