We are ready to go one step further - Akuila Uate

Veteran Vodafone Fiji Bati winger Akuila Uate has claimed the Bati are ready to go one step further in this year’s Rugby League World Cup, given they have some of the best backs in the competition.

The Bati made the semifinals in the 2008 and 2013 World Cups and believe they have strike power to do this again, with Uate joined by the likes of Jarryd Hayne, Suliasi Vunivalu, Kevin Naiqama and Marcelo Montoya in the backline.

The Bati will put their strike power on display on Saturday when they take on the US for their first pool match in Townsville and Uate believes they are ready to show their true potential.

Uate believes Fiji can have a big impact on the tournament.

Uate will play at centre on Saturday, a role he has taken on just once before in his career while playing with the Newcastle Knights in 2008.

The Manly star, however, is confident he will handle the change with ease.

Fiji kickoff their World Cup campaign against USA at 9.40pm Saturday.

Looking at other games, Australia will take on England in the World Cup opener at 9pm tomorrow.

The PNG Kumuls will host their first ever World Cup match against Wales at 5pm Saturday while New Zealand will take on Samoa at 7.10pm.
