Today the Queensland Rugby Union honoured Queensland Rugby great John Eales with a statue at Suncorp Stadium.
John Eales who captained the Wallabies side to their second World Cup title in 1999 says that he did not see this as an individual honour but a representation and celebration of the wonderful history of Rugby Union in Queensland.
Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle says that John Eales is an icon of the sport and it is only fitting that he is now forever enshrined here at this iconic venue in his beloved home of Queensland.
Reds head coach and fellow World Cup winning lock Brad Thorn says that John is a proud Queenslander and a humble man who has achieved an outstanding success in the maroon for Queensland and also in the green and gold for Australia and this statue is recognition of this.
The Queensland Reds will host the mighty Crusaders at 8.45pm this Saturday.
Hurricanes will face Brumbies at 6.35pm Friday night and Rebels will take on Highlanders at 8.45pm the same night while the Chiefs will host the Sunwolves at FMG Stadium at 6.35pm Saturday.
