History is set to be made as ticket sales have surpassed 95 per cent capacity for the inaugural HSBC Canada Sevens in Vancouver, which will see the largest ever rugby crowd in Canadian history attend the exciting 16‑team tournament at BC Place Stadium this weekend.
To date, the largest crowd to watch a rugby event in Canada was 22,556 for a 2013 match between Canada and the Maori All Blacks in Toronto and with ticket sales already surpassing 25,000 per day, both days of the tournament are poised to break the former attendance record.
Hosts Canada have been seeing steady improvement throughout the first four rounds of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai, Cape Town, Wellington and Sydney.
But with the series heating up after four rounds, the Vodafone Fiji 7s team is leading the table with 91 points, South Africa is in second place with 86 points, New Zealand is third with 82 points while Australia is fourth with 73 points.
The capacity at the BC Place Stadium is 54,500 as it has hosted the Women's Soccer World Cup Final.
Fiji will take on Samoa at 6.14am Sunday, they will then face Portugal at 9.50am before taking on Kenya at 2pm Sunday.
The Cup Quarter Finals start at 7.08am next Monday, the semifinals will be at 11.08am Monday while the Cup final will be held at 2pm next Monday.
