The Fiji National Sports Commission has provided more than $1.124 million for preparations and $667,000 for participation towards Team Fiji for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
The assistance allowed for the cost of preparations for the 12 participating sports that include Athletics, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby 7s, Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis and Weightlifting.
Athletics, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Netball, Swimming, Table Tennis and Weightlifting were able to take advantage of the funding with training and overseas competitions.
Team Fiji will be sending its largest-ever contingent to a Commonwealth Games with 144 athletes and officials.
Fiji made its first appearance at the Games in 1938 which was then known as the British Empire Games and has participated in 15 Commonwealth Games since then.
Fiji has won a total of 15 medals in the history of the games.
