Students of Marist Brothers High School will now have a state of the art 100 metre synthetic tracks which is expected to be completed by October this year.
A ground breaking ceremony was held today for the project with a cost of $16 million and it also includes an international standard rugby field, a 15 meter Long Jump pit and a 30 meter training field.
The first phase of construction is estimated to cost around $8 million and is expected to be completed by October while the second phase will be completed around August next year.
While officiating the ground breaking ceremony, Permanent Secretary of the Prime Ministers Office, Yogesh Karan stated that this was only possible due to their partnership with the People’s Republic of China.
The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Fiji, Qian Bo hopes that this partnership will help strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
Marist has been know for producing elite athletes who have represented Fiji in rugby and athletics internationally.
The Guangzhou No.1 construction Company Limited of China will start construction work soon.
