Six players in the South Africa 7s team will not be playing in Las Vegas and Vancouver due to injury and Super Rugby commitments but Fiji Airways National 7s coach Gareth Baber says this does not mean that they will not be a threat in the two tournaments.
Four players including Seabelo Senatla, Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Tim Agaba and Kwagga Smith are all back with their Super Rugby teams while Justin Geduld and Rosko Specman were ruled out of selection due to injury.
They have also lost their most experienced player for the rest of the season after Chris Dry was ruled out due to a serious knee injury.
But there is some good news for South Africa as the experienced Philip Snyman is back from injury and will be supported by Kyle Brown, Branco du Preez and Cecil Afrika in Las Vegas.
Fiji 7s Coach Gareth Baber says he is expecting a new competitive strategy from the South Africa 7s team.
Fiji will play Russia in their first pool match of the Las Vegas 7s at 12.06pm this Saturday and we take on France at 3.07pm, Fiji then play their final pool match against Kenya at 8.36am Sunday.
The Cup quarters start at 1.26pm this Sunday, the Cup semis will be held at 9.12am next Monday while the Cup final will kick off at 12.30pm Monday.
