The 2005 World Cup 7s winning Manager, Malakai Finau believes Digicel Fiji 7s coach, Waisale Serevi needs a good back-up team if he is to successfully defend the Melrose Cup next year.
Finau, who was the manager when Pauliasi Tabulutu resigned from the coaching role after the Wellington 7s in 2005, said one of the reasons the Fiji side struggled in those days, was that the Coach did all the work. He was the trainer, the analyst and even mapped out the game plan.
He said one of the strengths in the Wayne Pivac coached side that won the Melrose Cup in 2005, was the coaching staff, like Joe Savou was Assistant Coach, Paul Feeney was the video analyst, Vince Kelly was the trainer and Serevi was the team adviser.
Finau said if the same process is applied by FRU, then it will assist Serevi a lot.
