Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s robust wing and police officer, Eroni Sau believes his upbringing from farming, diving and lifting heavy firewood back in his village in Marou, Yasawa has moulded him to be a strong rugby player.
Sau who has earned himself the name “Sledgehammer” by the World Sevens Series commentators is known for his hard hits and strong running after making his debut in Dubai last year.
This morning he was hosted to a morning tea by Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho and some senior officers of the Fiji Police Force after his outstanding performance at the Sydney and Hamilton 7s.
The 27-year-old says he loves to be physical on the field.
Sau’s try in the Hamilton 7s final against South Africa saw him bumping off Branco du Preez and running away from Werner Kok.
He says that it was an awesome feeling to have Kok and Kwagga Smith acknowledging his strength on the field.
Sau has also confirmed that he wanted to represent Fiji in the Commonwealth Games in April and the World Cup Sevens in July.
Meanwhile, he praised the work that has been put in by coach Gareth Baber after their sixth-place finish in Sydney.
He says that he has developed with the guidance of Baber and believes that if they continue to work together then they can produce consistent results in the series.
The national 7s squad will start camping again next Tuesday to prepare for the Las Vegas and Vancouver 7s which will be held on the 2nd to the 4th and 10th to the 11th of next month.
