Heleina Young had to settle for silver in last years Intermediate Girls 100m

Saint Joseph’s Secondary School is going in as the underdog in the girls division of the Coca‑Cola Games next week with the aim to better their performance from last year.

They will go in with this tag although they stamped their mark in the girls division at the Suva Zone 2 winning with 25 Gold, 17 Silver and 15 Bronze.

Saint Joseph’s will be led by national rep Heleina Young who will also carry the school’s hopes of securing two gold medals in the Intermediate Girls 100m and 200m.

Other athletes who are expected to win medals this year for Saint Joseph’s are Avelina Navue in the Junior Girls Long Jump and Tarairi Erasito in the Intermediate Girls Shot Put and Discus.

Meanwhile their potential gold medalists who won silver and bronze last year who are also expected to come out strongly this year include Junior Girls High Jumper Sisilia Tukidia, Phylippa Pickering in the Junior Girls Shot Put and Louisa Tubailagi in the 100m and 200m.

Saint Joseph’s Secondary School Athletics Manager, Lanieta Rakanace says they are hoping for a better performance next week as their athletics team is being assisted sprinters, Sisilia Seavula and Banuve Tabakaucoro as well as Bola Tafou.

Saint Joseph’s finished third last year with 4 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze.

The Coca Cola Games will be held next Thursday to Saturday at the ANZ Stadium.
