Rewa has achieved a historic win in the Vodafone Fiji FACT final dethroning the defending Champions Nadi 1-0 yesterday afternoon.
The Delta Tigers have won the title for the first time in their home ground in 27 years.
This is Rewa’s second Fiji FACT title win as the side won in 2011 when they had defeated Labasa in the final. Defender Samuela Kautoga scored the winning goal in the 32nd minute of the first half with an excellent header that left the Nadi defence and goal keeper shell shocked.
Rewa dominated the first half with a number of good goal scoring chances and Iosefo Verevou struck a powerful shot from just outside the Nadi penalty box which Nadi goal keeper, Vereti Dickson saved brilliantly.
In the second half, Nadi tried to get the equalizer but the Rewa defence led by Kautoga and Peniame Drova stood tall and did not let Nadi get the equalizer.
Kautoga was also awarded the Player of the Tournament while Nadi’s 18 year old midfielder, Afraz Ali was awarded the New Find of the Tournament. Kautoga says team work was good which has made it possible for them to get the victory.
Coach, Marika Rodu says winning the Fiji FACT title for the first time in their home ground is very special for the players.
Rewa also received the $15,000 prize money.
