Rekindling, piloted by Corey Brown, burst down the home straight at Flemington Racecourse to claim the 2017 Melbourne Cup this afternoon.
The Irish stayer starting from barrier four, overhauled Johannes Vermeer with 100m to run to give Brown a second Cup title, after riding Shocking to victory in 2009.
Max Dynamite came in third as the pre‑race favourite Marmelo, in the leading pack at the final turn, faded in final straight to finish way back.
Brown says he cannot believe that he will win this race.
Meanwhile Joseph Brown, the owner of Rekindling is still in shock after winning the prestigious Cup.
The 24-year-old from England says he was emotional when he spoke to his father after the race.
After nine months, Brown has come back from overseas and has been training for today since then.
The prize money for the Melbourne Cup winner is AUD$6 million.
