Ratu Kadavulevu School last won the Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball competition in 1984 when their current Principal, Pio Veivoli was still a student.
This is one of the reasons why RKS have come back this year after 34 years.
This was revealed by RKS basketball coach Marika Beitakivalu.
But RKS struggled this morning against the All Stars in their opening match going down 18-13.
The All Stars is made of the U15 national basketball squad who are playing in the tournament as a warm up to the Oceania U15 Championship to be held in Papua New Guinea.
Meanwhile, U19 boys defending champions, Saint John's College have begun this year's Secondary Schools Basketball Championship strongly defeating Gospel High School in their first game 28‑19.
In other U19 matches, Yat Sen Secondary School defeated Tilak High School 27‑17 while in the U19 girls division, Suva Grammar School thrashed Tilak 29‑8 and Saint Joseph's Secondary School defeated Swami Vivekananda College 31‑6.
In the U15 girls division, Yat Sen Secondary School beat SVC 15‑3 while in the U15 boys division, SVC thrashed RKS 32‑8.
Yat Sen Secondary School U17 girls defeated SVC 18-8 while Saint John’s College are currently playing the U17 girls All Stars team.
