Police awaiting statement from Fiji Corrections Service before prisoners can be charged

Police have confirmed that they are awaiting a statement from the Fiji Corrections Service before five of the seven prisoners who escaped from the Naboro Maximum Prison on the 24th of last month can be charged.

Chief of Intelligence and Investigation  ACP Vakacegu Toduadua has confirmed that police will be questioning the remaining two prisoners soon.

The two prisoners, Solomoni Qurai and Peniasi Qalibau are still admitted at the CWM Hospital due to injuries sustained while escaping from the prison.

Toduadua says that the five who have been questioned include, Ulaiasi Qalomai, Mesulame Waqabaca, Bainivalu Tuimatavesi, Filipe Delana and Josaia Usumaki.

Toduadua says that their investigations will also focus on those prison officers who aided and assisted the 7 prisoners to escape.

Fiji Corrections Service, Public Relations Officer Jone Kalouniviti earlier highlighted that they will release a statement once the Fiji Corrections Service has completed its internal investigations.
