The 1,200 villagers in Saunaka, Nadi will now have more opportunities of building their career in athletics after the opening of a Gym worth $38,970.
The new gym also includes new gym equipment which costs $12,350.
While officiating the gym Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says that this gym will provide a modern, safe recreational space that will encourage healthy lifestyles and cultivate athletic talent of Saunaka village.
Bainimarama says that this is a big step in bringing the services and infrastructure in our rural areas up to the same standard that can be found in our urban centres.
He says we all cannot become Olympians, but we can all appreciate and participate in physical activity.
The Prime Minister also highlights that in Fiji, there is an unacceptably high rate of Non-communicable diseases.
He says if we make changes in our lifestyle, eat healthier foods and exercise in gyms we can have more of precious time with our loved ones.
